WHY WAS REDESIGNING NEEDED?

  • To accommodate the need for a new feature- Project Management so that the Admin can manage projects in the company.

  • Addition of Time Sheet feature for employees to track their progress.

  • Change in UI because of the use of certain colors which makes it hard to perceive data

  • There are no action screens to update employee check-out by Admin

USER ACCOUNTS

01. ADMIN

An Admin is on the top of the hierarchy. They have access to all the features on the application. They can access the data of the entire organisation.

02. HEAD OF DEPARTMENT

The Department Head comes second to the Admin. They have access to all the features but their data access is limited to their specific department.

03. EMPLOYEE

The Employee has restricted access on the application. They have access to only their details.

USER PERSONAS

With the existing data, two user personas were built to understand the needs and pain points of the target users of the application.

The 2 user personas:

  • Dilip Kumar, a co-founder of an interior design firm

  • Jitin Das,  an employee at an IT firm.

The journey map assisted in visualizing the journey the user goes about throughout the day, what elements lead to frustration, and what causes joy. It aids in getting into the user's shoes and understanding their experiences in reaching their goals.

LIMITATIONS

  1. Not enough user testing was done for the new feature implemented.

  2. Designs were tailored for mobile-use only. No design versions were created for kiosk-mode.

  3. Due to time limitations, a majority of existing research was leveraged.

  4. The short timeline did not allow for a competitor analysis.

CHALLENGES

  1. It was challenging to design distinct user flows for different user types- Admin, Head of department and Employee.

  2. Given that the product was already in use, the redesign had to be completed on a fast-paced schedule.

  3. The design had to be versatile enough to suit users across different age groups and domains such as students at schools, employees at offices, and workers in factories.

Where else do I flex my creative muscles with a big portion of discipline?
